SummitIG Strengthens Market Footprint with Acquisition of Dark Fiber & Infrastructure
SummitIG has completed the acquisition of Dark Fiber and Infrastructure, LLC ("DF&I") from funds managed by Blue Owl Capital Inc. This acquisition enhances SummitIG's network density and route diversity in Northern Virginia and Maryland, reinforcing its status as a leader in the dark fiber market.
The acquisition adds nearly 200 miles of DF&I's conduit and dark fiber assets to SummitIG's existing infrastructure, which already spans over 1,100 miles in Virginia. This combination will provide customers with greater flexibility and access to approximately 60 miles of distinct network extending into Maryland, including Baltimore.
Sunny Kumar, CEO of SummitIG, commented, "This acquisition represents a significant milestone in our strategy to expand and strengthen our platform in the markets that matter most to our customers. By integrating DF&I's complementary network into our existing broad footprint, we are giving hyperscalers, carriers, and large enterprises greater flexibility, deeper route diversity, and the additional capacity required to support the next generation of cloud and AI workloads."
This move comes at a time of rapid growth for SummitIG, which is expanding in five core domestic markets and has established a joint venture with SierraIG to enhance infrastructure capabilities in Mexico.
Chris Jensen, Managing Director of Digital Infrastructure at Blue Owl, stated, "We are incredibly proud of the scaled platform we built alongside DF&I's leadership over the last six years. SummitIG is the ideal successor to take these assets forward, and we are confident that their operational expertise and market momentum will drive continued success and infrastructure excellence across the region."
The integration process is underway, aiming for a seamless transition for customers and a continuation of current contract commitments. Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP acted as legal advisor to SummitIG, while Bank Street Group served as financial advisor and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP acted as legal advisor to DF&I in the transaction.
