Codis To Acquire Catalent's Nottingham, UK Facility to Create Europe's Leading End-to-End Spray Dry Capability

July 6, 2026

Codis, a global contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) specializing in spray drying and advanced particle engineering solutions, has reached an agreement to acquire Catalent Pharma Solutions' facility in Nottingham, UK. The acquisition, expected to finalize in the third quarter of this year, will enhance Codis' capabilities in oral solid dose (OSD) development and small-scale manufacturing.

The Nottingham facility is recognized for its experienced team and significant expertise in formulation development and clinical supply, having successfully delivered development-scale spray drying and OSD solutions for over 20 years. Codis plans to integrate the Nottingham team into its operations.

This acquisition will complement Codis' existing commercial spray drying facility in Haverhill, UK, which is currently undergoing expansion with a new GEA Pharma-SD® type PSD-4 commercial spray dryer expected to be validated in 2027. The added capabilities aim to enhance Codis' portfolio of bioavailability enhancement solutions and create an integrated pathway for bringing products from development to commercial-scale manufacturing.

Nicolas Fortin, CEO of Codis, emphasized that this acquisition positions the company as a leading provider of comprehensive spray dry solutions in Europe. He noted the strategic advantage of having both Nottingham and Haverhill facilities in close proximity, allowing for access to scientific expertise and integrated manufacturing capabilities within a single organization.

Fortin highlighted the challenges faced by small-molecule drug candidates in terms of solubility and the importance of spray-dried dispersions in improving bioavailability. He stated that the integration of formulation development and GMP manufacturing within Codis aims to provide a more efficient and lower-risk pathway for unlocking the potential of new drug candidates.

Codis operates globally with a focus on commercial spray drying, amorphous solid dispersions, particle engineering, and finished dose manufacturing across various sectors, including pharmaceuticals and consumer health.
