CompTIA names Sean Ryan CEO, signaling next phase of growth

CompTIA has appointed Sean Ryan as its new chief executive officer, marking a strategic move to enhance its focus on artificial intelligence (AI) skills and credentialing amidst growing demand for technology expertise. Ryan, who has extensive experience in the education sector, previously served as president of the School Group at McGraw Hill, a prominent provider of educational solutions for preK-12 and higher education. He succeeds Todd Thibodeaux, who led CompTIA for nearly 18 years.

CompTIA's announcement comes at a time when the need for technology and AI skills is on the rise, prompting employers to seek reliable methods to validate workforce readiness. During his tenure at McGraw Hill, Ryan oversaw a significant digital and AI-driven transformation, making him a suitable candidate to lead CompTIA through similar changes.

He believes that the organization's foundation, combined with a focus on AI skills, positions CompTIA to effectively translate AI ambitions into measurable, credentialed capabilities.

Ryan has a proven track record in the education sector, having led McGraw Hill's School Group while transitioning its business model from print to digital, achieving over a billion dollars in billings, and diversifying its offerings through acquisitions and in-house development of technology solutions. He holds degrees from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, the University of Arizona, and the United States Air Force Academy.
