Apkudo unveils RSA: The first zero-touch automation system built for foldables, tablets, and modern device processing

July 7, 2026

Apkudo has announced the commercial launch of the Robotic Standalone Automation (RSA) appliance, designed to automate the cosmetic and functional inspection of complex device form factors. Engineered by Alpha Automatics and powered by Apkudo Device OS™, the RSA is the first solution capable of handling various modern device shapes, including flip devices, foldables, and tablets, without the need for hardware reconfiguration.

As consumer adoption of flexible screens rises, fueled by a 24% year-over-year increase in foldable shipments, these device forms have become some of the most challenging segments in the mobile returns process. The manual handling of such devices often results in grading subjectivity and reduced warehouse processing efficiency, making it difficult for participants in the reverse logistics ecosystem to access standardized automation solutions.

The RSA appliance addresses these issues by providing precise testing of smartphones, tablets, and foldables on a single platform, eliminating manual handling and ensuring reliable analytics. The system features advanced robotics, integrated torque sensors, and acoustic capture, allowing for accurate diagnostics on foldable devices. High-resolution imaging techniques are employed for testing larger display surfaces, and Apkudo's cosmetic Device AI™ models are compliant with the CTIA 5.1 grading standards.

Charles Xie, CEO of Alpha Automatics, noted the advantages of Apkudo’s technology in addressing industry challenges, emphasizing the RSA’s ability to ensure safe and efficient handling of modern flexible form factors. Josh Matthews, CEO and Co-Founder of Apkudo, echoed this sentiment, stating that the RSA brings precision to form factors that have posed difficulties for the reverse logistics sector.

Designed for easy deployment, the RSA appliance can process up to 30 devices per hour and fits through standard industrial doorways, making it suitable for smaller regional sellers as well as larger return centers. Initial commercial deployments are underway with industry leaders, and the RSA will be showcased at Mobile Disrupt 2026 from July 7-8 in Miami.
