Howard County Executive Calvin Ball Celebrates Opening of Six New Pickleball Courts at Alpha Ridge Park
Rick Struble, Treasurer of the Howard County Pickleball Association, expressed enthusiasm for the opening of new pickleball courts at Alpha Ridge Park, emphasizing the fun and activity the sport brings, particularly on windy days. Struble also acknowledged the availability of other courts in the area, including those at Rockburn, Blandair, Western Regional, and Atholton Parks, commending the County’s investment in recreational facilities.
Located at 11685 MD 99 in Marriottsville, Alpha Ridge Park hosts Howard County's only outdoor, regulation-size inline hockey rink. This fall, the Recreation & Parks Adult Howard County Inline Hockey League (HCIHL) will return to the park, along with a new Youth HCIHL. The park offers a variety of amenities, including a 12-inch Newtonian telescope at the Howard Astronomical League Observatory, two tennis courts, three ball diamonds, two multipurpose fields, two playgrounds, two picnic pavilions, and a Solar System Walk.
Plans for further improvements at Alpha Ridge Park include the installation of shade structures and benches next to the new pickleball courts this fall, as well as enhancements to the recently resurfaced tennis courts.
