Shoppable's Universal Checkout Plugin Is Now Available in ChatGPT
Shoppable has launched a plugin in the ChatGPT Plugin Directory, enabling multi-retailer product discovery and cart-building for the platform's 900 million weekly active users. This move follows the release of Shoppable's universal checkout MCP server earlier this year, making it the first commerce infrastructure provider to offer such capabilities through AI conversations.
The plugin gives ChatGPT users in the United States access to Shoppable's universal catalog, which features 500 million products. This initiative builds on over 15 years of infrastructure development at Shoppable, which holds four U.S. patents related to multi-retailer universal checkout technology. Originally designed to allow consumers to purchase from various retailers while remaining on a publisher's site, this technology now facilitates product discovery and cart-building in AI interactions.
Heather Udo, Founder and CEO of Shoppable, emphasized the company's mission, stating, "We built Shoppable on a simple idea: the cart should come to the consumer, wherever they already are." The integration of ChatGPT's intelligence with Shoppable's universal cart allows users to seamlessly find and purchase products from multiple retailers in a single transaction.
The ChatGPT plugin represents a significant advancement in Shoppable's commerce infrastructure, providing brands with a single point of access for universal checkout backends, multi-retailer product discovery, and order consolidation. This system aims to simplify shopping experiences by eliminating the need for separate carts and enabling one-click purchases from different retailers.
The Shoppable plugin is now live, allowing ChatGPT users to interact with it by starting a prompt with "@Shoppable." Initial users will be prompted to connect the plugin and see what data may be shared during their shopping experience. Udo remarked on the evolution of shopping, noting that each major shift has come from removing steps in the purchasing process, highlighting the significance of this latest innovation in commerce.
