Broken Yolk Cafe Named "Best Breakfast" and "Best Brunch" In Readers' Poll

San Diegans have voted Broken Yolk Café their top destination for breakfast and brunch in The San Diego Union-Tribune's 2026 Reader's Poll. This recognition comes after 47 years in business for the San Diego-based restaurant chain, which has been a local favorite since its opening in 1979.

The original Broken Yolk Café is situated just a mile from the Pacific Beach neighborhood. The establishment quickly gained popularity for its scratch-made ingredients, warm hospitality, generous portions, and commitment to the local community. Today, the brand has expanded to 15 locations in San Diego County and operates a total of 42 locations.

Owner John Gelastopoulos stated, "After all these years, it's the breakfast classics that locals fell in love with decades back that keep them coming in. Of course, it's our newer, signature dishes and fresh, inventive takes on brunch staples that have kept the brand top-of-mind for newer generations." He expressed optimism about the brand's future, hoping to continue introducing families to an elevated breakfast and brunch experience for many more years.

The company plans to expand its reach by opening its first location in Indiana, with a recently established development agreement with multi-unit QSR operator Marc Clapper. This 2-unit deal will mark Broken Yolk Café's official entry into the Midwest region.
