Preiss Awarded Management of Two Off-Campus Student Housing Communities Serving UNC Charlotte
Preiss, a national owner, developer, and operator of student housing and multifamily properties, has announced it will manage The Mill and The Union, two student housing communities near the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The management contract follows the acquisition of both properties by Triangle Capital Group, based in New York. This agreement signifies Preiss' re-entry into the Charlotte market, expanding its managed portfolio by 569 beds across 230 units.
The Mill, located just east of UNC Charlotte, offers 386 beds in various floor plans, while The Union, situated adjacent to the campus, features 183 beds across studio and multi-bedroom layouts. Together, the communities will undergo a $5 million capital investment aimed at enhancing resident amenities and modernizing the facilities.
Investments will target comprehensive renovations of both property clubhouses and amenity spaces, updates to interior units, integration of smart home technology, and the resolution of any deferred maintenance issues. Both communities will also see complete brand transformations.
Mike Kivitz, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Preiss, expressed enthusiasm about returning to the Charlotte student housing market, emphasizing the importance of improving the living experience for residents while collaborating with Triangle Capital Group to fulfill their long-term vision for the communities.
Preiss is recognized as a leader in the development, acquisition, and management of multifamily and off-campus student housing, with nearly four decades of experience and a reputation as the 11th largest privately held student housing owner-operator in the country.
