SAP SE and Cyberwave have announced the successful deployment of fully autonomous, AI-driven robots in an active SAP logistics warehouse. This initiative marks a significant milestone, following the strategic expansion of SAP's Physical-AI capabilities announced last year, as the company begins implementing advanced robotics in its facilities.

The project at the SAP warehouse in St. Leon-Rot utilizes SAP Logistics Management (LGM), SAP's cloud-native logistics solution, demonstrating that "Physical AI" is no longer just a research concept. The system is already delivering measurable throughput increases, as robots autonomously perform tasks such as folding boxes, packaging, and processing shipments.

The lean, API-oriented architecture of SAP LGM, which gained attention at LogiMAT 2026 for its rapid implementation and standardized processes, is ideal for robot automation. Tasks are translated into precise robot commands via the SAP Embodied AI Service, enabling seamless integration across the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) and the Cyberwave platform in just minutes.

The use of robotics in logistics poses significant challenges, as robots must handle variously shaped objects, fold and fill boxes, transport packages, label items, and process orders—tasks that vary constantly in terms of items, arrangements, and conditions. Traditional robotic systems often require tedious manual programming for each task variant and may fail under changing real-world conditions.

Cyberwave has developed the first platform designed specifically to address these challenges. It allows operators to quickly capture training data through intuitive demonstration interfaces, optimize vision-language-action (VLA) and reinforcement learning (RL) models to create adaptable robotic behavior strategies, and deploy these models on physical robots while enabling continuous optimization based on real-time feedback.

In the SAP warehouse, robots trained and deployed on the Cyberwave platform are now fully autonomously performing tasks such as folding boxes, packaging, and handling internal shipments. This alleviates employees from repetitive, physically demanding tasks and increases overall warehouse throughput. The entire integration process, from robot testing to live operation, was facilitated through SAP BTP and the Cyberwave platform.
