Immunic Appoints Distinguished Biopharmaceutical Executive Erik Lundgren as Chief Executive Officer

Immunic, Inc., a late-stage biotechnology company, has announced the appointment of Erik Lundgren as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective May 22, 2026. Lundgren succeeds Daniel Vitt, Ph.D., who will continue to oversee scientific strategy and remain on Immunic's Board of Directors. Lundgren's employment is set to begin on June 1, 2026.

Lundgren is expected to lead the company's efforts to advance vidofludimus calcium through late-stage clinical development, including the phase 3 ENSURE program for relapsing multiple sclerosis. He will also prepare for a potential new drug application filing and commercialization as the company aims to transition into a commercial-stage entity.

Michael W. Bonney, Chair of Immunic's Board of Directors, expressed confidence in Lundgren's ability to guide the company through its next phase of growth, particularly as pivotal data from the phase 3 RMS trial is anticipated by the end of the year. "Erik's experience will be invaluable," Bonney stated.

Lundgren brings nearly two decades of biopharmaceutical experience to Immunic, most recently serving as Senior Vice President at Genentech. His expertise in multiple sclerosis includes playing a significant role in the launch of Ocrevus®, a leading treatment in the field. He stated he is honored to join Immunic and is excited about the potential of vidofludimus calcium in addressing unmet needs in the treatment landscape for multiple sclerosis.

With a Bachelor of Arts from Duke University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, Lundgren has held various positions at Genentech, contributing to the successful launches of multiple oncology treatments as well. The Compensation Committee of Immunic has granted him an equity option to purchase 1,000,000 shares under the company’s Inducement Equity Compensation Plan.
