NATIONAL GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT DEMANDS ACTION ON SKYROCKETING COST OF U.S. HEALTHCARE

May 27, 2026

A grassroots movement called One Nation, Overcharged is set to launch this summer in response to rising healthcare costs affecting millions of working families in the U.S. The initiative aims to foster conversations and advocacy on the urgency of making healthcare more affordable and equitable. The campaign is backed by substantial funding for organizing and advertising, and is supported by a coalition of health advocacy and civil rights groups.

One Nation, Overcharged has received support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and includes collaboration with 12 national partners and over 130 advocacy groups across various sectors, including healthcare and civil rights. The movement seeks to mobilize community engagement and cultural activities that highlight the pressing issue of healthcare affordability.

Key public figures, such as actors Noah Wyle and Yvette Nicole Brown, and physician Dr. Mike Varshavski, are joining the campaign to raise awareness. Civic leaders and community organizers plan to engage the public in discussions and events across local communities.

Avenel Joseph, PhD, vice president for policy at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, stated, "When people in America are forced to choose between buying groceries or seeing their doctor, it's a problem that requires action." Derrick Johnson, president and CEO of the NAACP, emphasized that high healthcare costs create unacceptable barriers, particularly for communities of color.

The One Nation, Overcharged website will serve as a platform for individuals to join the movement, share personal stories, and participate in local events aimed at advocating for an equitable healthcare system. The campaign also intends to promote a multi-channel advertising effort to amplify its message and invite broader community involvement.
