University of Phoenix College of Doctoral Studies holds fifth annual colloquium supporting doctoral students

May 30, 2026

The University of Phoenix College of Doctoral Studies recently hosted a virtual Doctoral Journey Colloquium from April 27-30, aimed at supporting doctoral students in their studies and facilitating networking opportunities. This event is part of the College's initiative to enhance doctoral student success.

Hinrich Eylers, Ph.D., P.E., vice provost of the College of Doctoral Studies, stated, "We design our colloquium to support our doctoral students on their educational journey. We build each event responsive to feedback on the ones prior, enhancing opportunities for connection, networking and empowerment. This was the most highly attended virtual colloquium so far."

The event included welcoming sessions from College leaders and attracted 280 students, alumni, and faculty members from various disciplines, including Business/Management, Education, and Healthcare. In addition, 30 staff members and speakers participated, with interactive workshops designed to provide valuable insights for students’ doctoral progression.

The Colloquium serves as a key component of the College's Doctoral ecosystem, aimed at providing additional support, sharing updates and resources, fostering relationships among students and alumni, creating networking opportunities, and identifying areas for program improvement.

Daniel Pickett, a doctoral student in the Doctor of Management program, remarked, "This was my first Colloquium and it was an amazing opportunity to meet classmates and faculty to grow my network, including joining a new virtual study group." Josephine Grey, MHS, a U.S. Army veteran and doctoral student in the Doctor of Health Administration program, added, "I found the session on the IRB very insightful. I strongly recommend that students attend, no matter where they are in their program."

Throughout the event, attendees engaged with classmates and faculty across all doctoral programs and experiences. The College has already commenced planning for the 2027 colloquium.
