Elanco Animal Health Commits to Supporting U.S. Livestock Producers and Pet Owners in Fight Against New World Screwworm

June 4, 2026

Elanco Animal Health Incorporated has confirmed that the New World screwworm has reached the United States, with the first case identified in livestock in Texas. This invasive species poses a significant risk to the health and welfare of warm-blooded animals, including livestock and pets, as its larvae feed on living tissue.

The emergence of New World screwworm represents a major concern for veterinarians, livestock producers, and pet owners, marking the first occurrence of the pest in the United States since its eradication more than 50 years ago. Jeff Simmons, President and CEO of Elanco, emphasized the potential impact on animal health and producer livelihoods, thanking regulatory agencies such as the FDA, EPA, and USDA for their efforts to address the threat.

Elanco is now offering a range of treatment options for both livestock and pets to combat New World screwworm infestations. Among the available products are Credelio Quattro™, Credelio™, and Negasunt™ Powder, each of which has received FDA Emergency Use Authorization for specific applications. These treatments are designed to assist veterinarians and producers in managing this emerging threat.

Negasunt Powder and Tanidil will be distributed through the U.S. Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), in coordination with state animal health officials and federally recognized tribal agencies. APHIS will soon provide additional information on usage requirements, including instructions for tracking and safety measures.

As the New World screwworm poses a growing challenge, Elanco intends to work closely with producers to enhance management practices, ensuring timely implementation of prevention and treatment protocols.
