Hitachi and Intel announce strategic collaboration to accelerate AI transformation across key industries
Hitachi, Ltd. and Intel Corporation have announced a strategic collaboration aimed at advancing physical AI, advanced computing, and next-generation digital infrastructure across various industries, including manufacturing, energy, and mobility. The partnership will leverage Hitachi's information technology and operational technology expertise alongside Intel's advanced computing capabilities to develop solutions that modernize operations and improve infrastructure resilience.
The companies plan to collaborate across five key areas: foundry tools, quantum computing, energy optimization, custom silicon, and edge-AI applications, as well as factory automation. In foundry tools, Hitachi will utilize high-precision data from its metrology systems to facilitate predictive diagnostics and maintenance optimization in semiconductor manufacturing. This initiative aims to enhance yield, reduce time to market, and improve quality.
In quantum computing, the collaboration is set to boost the joint research and development efforts between Hitachi and Intel, facilitating advancements in quantum technologies. Energy optimization is another focal point, with Hitachi's HMAX Energy expected to provide managed services for core power equipment within Intel's facilities, while Intel will contribute high-voltage silicon chips to boost Hitachi's power systems. Custom silicon, edge-AI applications, and factory automation are additional areas of exploration for potential collaboration.
Toshiaki Tokunaga, President & CEO of Hitachi, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting the long-standing relationship with Intel and the potential of physical AI to drive transformation across various industries. Similarly, Intel's CEO Lip-Bu Tan emphasized that the collaboration positions both companies uniquely to harness the opportunities presented by physical AI at an industrial scale.
