Philippine Airlines to Join oneworld Alliance
Philippine Airlines (PAL), the national flag carrier of the Philippines, is set to join the oneworld alliance, becoming its 16th member airline. The announcement was made at a briefing during the International Air Transport Association's 82nd Annual General Meeting held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed.
Lucio C. Tan III, President of PAL Holdings, Inc., described the move as a “defining and transformative moment for Philippine Airlines.” He emphasized that joining the oneworld alliance would significantly enhance the Philippines’ and Southeast Asia’s representation in the global aviation market, and improve connectivity and travel experience for passengers.
Philippine Airlines was invited to join the alliance by the oneworld Governing Board, which consists of the chief executives of all member airlines. Robert Isom, Chief Executive Officer of American Airlines and chairman of the board, stated that Philippine Airlines' inclusion will bolster the alliance’s long-term strategic growth and enhance connectivity within the Asia Pacific region.
The integration of Philippine Airlines into the oneworld network will add 31 new destinations throughout the Philippines and beyond, addressing increasing customer demand in Asia, North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. Ole Orvér, Chief Executive Officer of oneworld, commented on Philippine Airlines’ reputation, highlighting its commitment to innovation and customer service.
Following this integration, members of Philippine Airlines’ Mabuhay Miles program will have opportunities to earn and redeem miles across all oneworld member airlines. Top-tier customers will gain access to priority benefits and more than 700 premium airport lounges, including oneworld-branded lounges in major international airports.
Philippine Airlines has been connecting the Philippines to global destinations for over 85 years, operating from its hubs in Manila and Cebu. Recognized as Asia's first commercial airline, it has maintained an APEX Four Star™ rating and achieved the highest on-time performance among Asia-Pacific carriers in 2025.
