Unlocking the Americas: Air Canada and Abra Group Sign Memorandum to Expand Travel and Connectivity between Canada, Latin America and Beyond
Air Canada and Abra Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a strategic partnership that aims to enhance travel experiences and connectivity across North, Central, and South America. The agreement is expected to enable revenue sharing and deeper commercial integration, including expanded codeshare agreements. Finalization of the partnership is contingent upon regulatory approval and completion of documentation.
Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Air Canada, stated that the partnership is poised to further unlock the Americas by improving customer experiences and global connectivity, building on existing codeshare arrangements. He emphasized the complementary presence of both airlines in the region.
Angus Clarke, Chief Commercial Officer at Abra Group, noted that the agreement reinforces the company's aim to enhance connectivity across the Americas. He highlighted the goal of creating integrated networks that facilitate closer ties between people and economies, which would unlock new opportunities for customers and partners.
Mary-Jane Lorette, Vice President at Air Canada, remarked on the accelerating growth in the Canada-South America market. She mentioned that the airlines plan to enhance their presence in key markets such as Lima, Santiago, and Rio de Janeiro, while also expanding growth into Quito.
Key aspects of the proposed partnership include expanding global reach through strengthened connectivity, deepening commercial integration via coordinated sales, establishing a Joint Business Agreement on select routes, enhancing customer experiences with coordinated services, and exploring greater cargo collaboration across the Americas.
Air Canada, Canada's largest airline, operates flights to over 180 airports globally and is a founding member of the Star Alliance. Abra Group encompasses notable Latin American airlines such as Avianca and GOL, operating a fleet of over 300 aircraft and servicing more than 145 destinations across the continent.
