Thunes Accelerates US Growth and Investment; Opens Strategic New York City Hub
Thunes, a global payments leader, is accelerating its expansion in the United States with the backing of its $150 million Series D funding round, which was announced last year. The company has officially opened a new office in New York City, located in Union Square, adding to its existing locations in San Francisco and Atlanta.
The investment emphasizes Thunes' focus on addressing essential use cases for global money movement from U.S.-based enterprises. By expanding its infrastructure and integrating deeply into the U.S. market, Thunes aims to enable American gig economy platforms, marketplaces, payment service providers, and financial institutions to conduct instant payouts to billions of global endpoints, thus reducing the common issues of friction, high costs, and delays associated with cross-border transactions.
Thunes possesses an advantage by owning and operating its own regulatory licenses across all U.S. states and territories, holding 50 Money Transmission Licenses (MTLs). This proprietary license framework enhances compliance control and transaction speeds for its members. The opening of the New York office is a significant step in Thunes' global expansion strategy as it continues to build its Direct Global Network, which connects its members to billions of endpoints in over 140 countries and 90 currencies.
According to Simon Nelson, Chief Commercial Officer at Thunes, the establishment of the New York office represents an important milestone for the company. He noted that the investment in the U.S. market is a response to the increasing demand from American businesses seeking faster and more transparent ways to transfer money globally. Kyle Rosen, Head of Americas at Thunes, highlighted that the company's complete ownership of its U.S. licenses is a key differentiator, ensuring reliability and speed in the services offered.
Thunes is currently seeking to fill several key roles to support its growing operations, particularly in business development. Interested candidates are invited to view open positions on the company’s website.
