ELEMENTL POWER DEVELOPING UTILITY-SCALE ADVANCED NUCLEAR POWER PROJECT IN SOUTHEAST OHIO

Elementl Power, an independent developer of utility-scale nuclear power projects, is pursuing the development of a nuclear power plant in Southeast Ohio with a planned capacity of up to 1.5 gigawatts (GW). The company has signed an Early Works Agreement with GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy to use the BWRX-300 small modular reactors (SMR) for this project, which stands to be among the first new SMR initiatives in the United States.

The proposed site, spanning nearly 700 acres in Meigs County, is located along the Ohio River in Letart Township, approximately 100 miles southeast of Columbus. Elementl has reached an agreement to purchase the property from American Municipal Power (AMP).

Elementl has submitted a request to PJM Interconnection to connect the site to the regional transmission system for the initial 600 megawatts (MW) of output from the facility. PJM is expected to review the application and provide feedback later this year.

The construction and operation of the nuclear facility are anticipated to create thousands of jobs in Ohio. If the project moves forward, it will require regulatory approvals from several state and federal agencies, including the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Ohio Power Siting Board. While Elementl plans to fund the project privately, it has asserted that the costs will not be passed on to electric customers.

Construction of the first unit is forecast to commence in 2030, contingent upon a final investment decision and regulatory approvals, with a projected completion date in 2034. Local and regional leaders have expressed support for Elementl's plans, highlighting the potential economic benefits and job creation associated with the project.
