El Fondo OPEP lanza un histórico pacto de financiación climática
The OPEC Fund for International Development and the Government of Barbados have launched the Vulnerability to Viability (V2V) Compact, aimed at expanding access to affordable long-term development finance for 74 climate-vulnerable economies. This initiative was announced during the Development Forum 2026.
Additionally, the OPEC Fund unveiled a $1.5 billion Digital Transformation Action Plan, which is designed to support digital infrastructure, systems, and applications in developing countries through 2030.
Agreements signed during the 2026 Development Forum, along with new loans and initiatives approved in the second quarter of 2026, are expected to exceed $2.8 billion. These funds will support economic reform, climate resilience, social protection, transport connectivity, trade finance, small and medium-sized enterprises, and critical infrastructure.
Furthermore, the OPEC Fund executed its first local currency loan in Azerbaijan through a financing agreement with Bank Respublika. The Fund concluded its 2026 Development Forum and the celebration of its 50th anniversary with the launch of these significant development initiatives and the mobilization of over $2.8 billion in new financing, partnerships, and development programs in its partner countries.
