FalconX Receives MiCA Authorization, Expanding Regulated Institutional Digital Asset Services Across the European Union
FalconX Limited has received authorization under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) from the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), allowing the company to enhance its services for institutional clients across the European Economic Area.
This authorization aims to strengthen FalconX's operations by providing a unified regulatory framework for trading, custody, and liquidity solutions within the digital asset markets. Maruska Buttigieg Gili, Chief Compliance Officer (Europe) at FalconX, stated that the authorization aligns with clients' expectations for trust and transparency as digital assets become more integrated into the global financial system.
FalconX currently serves over 2,000 institutional clients worldwide, which include prominent asset managers, hedge funds, banks, family offices, and digital asset firms. Since its inception, the firm has facilitated over $2.5 trillion in trading volume and originated more than $8 billion in institutional financing.
The firm also highlights its regulatory footprint with FalconX Bravo, Inc., the first CFTC-registered swap dealer focusing on digital asset derivatives. The recent authorization complements the acquisition of 21shares, further enhancing FalconX's capabilities to support its institutional clients within Europe's digital asset ecosystem.
FalconX is backed by several investors, including Accel, Adams Street Partners, and American Express Ventures, among others. The company operates offices in various global locations, including Silicon Valley, New York, and Singapore.
