Beehive completes majority stake acquisition in Saudi debt crowdfunding platform Themar
Beehive Group Holdings Limited has completed its acquisition of a majority stake in Themar Al Aamal Commercial Company LLC, the holding company for the SAMA-regulated debt crowdfunding platform, Themar Al Aamal for Crowdfunding Company CJSC, in Saudi Arabia. This acquisition positions Beehive as the first digital SME financing platform regulated across three GCC markets: the UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.
The transaction coincides with Beehive financing over 3,000 SMEs throughout the GCC since its founding in 2014. Beehive has been operating in Saudi Arabia since 2020, initially through strategic banking partnerships. The acquisition of Themar transforms this presence into a fully regulated platform, enhancing access to SME financing in the Kingdom.
Peter Tavener, Co-Founder & Group CEO of Beehive, stated that Saudi Arabia is one of the most dynamic SME markets in the region. He noted that the acquisition allows Beehive to shift from a partnership-based model to a regulated platform, providing a stronger foundation to expand financing opportunities for Saudi SMEs.
Yousef H. Al Dabbagh, Co-Founder of Themar, commented that Beehive’s regional experience and technology will enhance capital access for Saudi businesses. He emphasized the potential of the merged entity to support more SMEs across the Kingdom and contribute to the growth of Saudi Arabia’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The acquisition aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 agenda, which aims to boost SME financing, increase private-sector involvement, and diversify the economy. By combining Beehive's technology and operational expertise with Themar's regulated platform, the acquisition is expected to enhance access to transparent financing for Saudi SMEs and support the Kingdom's private-sector growth goals.
Following a structured funding arrangement with Goldman Sachs and Magellan Capital in the UAE, Beehive plans to establish a similar facility in Saudi Arabia to further enhance its SME funding capacity.
