Smartee Denti-Technology has announced the launch of the S22: GS MART (Mandibular Repositioning Technology) for occlusal reconstruction in prosthetic dentistry. This innovation expands the clinical application of GS MART into the field of prosthodontics. The project was developed in collaboration with the orthodontic team led by Prof. Gang Shen at the Taikang Dental Group.
GS MART was created as an effective clinical approach for treating complex malocclusions, utilizing custom-made transparent aligners based on the GS core solutions S8, S9, and S10. Instead of solely focusing on tooth positioning, the technology emphasizes the position of the mandible and functional occlusion within a comprehensive treatment plan.
Building on this clinical foundation, the S22 solution applies the principles of GS MART to occlusal reconstruction. During the market launch presentation, Dr. Lu Jingting, a core member of Prof. Gang Shen's orthodontic team, noted that many patients requiring occlusal reconstruction due to significant tooth wear or loss also exhibit an underbite and a class III malocclusion (deep bite, excessive overbite, and excessive Spee curve). In these cases, restoring tooth structure alone may not fully correct the underlying occlusal relationship.
Thus, the S22 technology proposes establishing a stable mandibular position through three-dimensional repositioning of the mandible before final restorative rehabilitation. According to the development team, the digital workflow is designed to support a step-by-step treatment plan, ensuring that mandible repositioning precedes occlusal reconstruction.
The S22 aims to enhance collaboration among orthodontists, prosthodontists, and general dentists when treating patients with complex occlusal issues. For patients diagnosed in a restorative or general dental practice, this technology facilitates the integration of mandibular repositioning prior to occlusal reconstruction. Patients referred from an orthodontic practice may undergo mandible repositioning treatment before being directed to final restorative rehabilitation. The project seeks to provide a coordinated clinical technology that facilitates interdisciplinary treatment planning while maintaining the distinct roles of each specialty.
The S22 represents another extension of GS technology for mandibular repositioning beyond orthodontics into the realm of prosthodontics. By combining Smartee's digital treatment planning platform with the clinical principles of GS mandibular repositioning, the project explores a digital workflow for interdisciplinary treatment of patients with three-dimensional malocclusions associated with tooth wear or loss. Smartee stated that the company will continue to collaborate with clinical experts to explore multidisciplinary applications of GS technology and support the further development of digital treatment workflows in orthodontics and prosthetics.
