These Are the Top Things Parents Get Done While Their Kids Use Screens
Lingokids, an online entertainment platform for young children, has conducted a survey to find out what parents accomplish while their kids are using screens. The results indicate that the most common task is preparing dinner, with nearly seven in ten parents (69.0%) reporting that screen time allows them the opportunity to cook and prepare food. Other household activities, such as cleaning, also ranked high on the list.
The findings come from the Kids Interactive Entertainment Report, which examines screen time trends for children aged 8 and under. The survey reveals that parents utilize screen time for various activities, including:
- Cooking/food prep — 69.0%
- Household operations (cleaning, paying bills, etc.) — 65.4%
- Work — 33.7%
- Talking with partner/friends/guests — 31.7%
- Relax and regroup — 27.0%
- Focusing on other kids — 24.5%
The significant emphasis on cooking and household tasks suggests that screen time plays a crucial role in maintaining daily household functions. Cristóbal Viedma, founder and CEO of Lingokids, commented, "For today's families, screen time is part of daily life. One reason for that is to give parents space to get things done. Parents often feel guilt about this, but if the content is trustworthy and parents can accomplish what they need to in order to fully engage with their children, it's a win for everyone."
The report also highlights that productivity is the primary reason parents may override their own screen time rules. When parents do adjust limits, the top reason is to finish a task, outpacing other factors such as special occasions or children's requests.
Lingokids aims to provide a reliable screen time option for parents, offering an ad-free and fully curated platform. This allows parents to focus on their tasks while knowing the content is appropriate for their children.
