Firebird Opens the Region's Largest AI Factory and Announces Global Expansion
Firebird has launched one of the world's fastest-deployed NVIDIA DSX AI factories, marking a significant step in its global expansion across emerging markets. The company plans to enhance its AI infrastructure in Armenia through a three-phase expansion that includes the deployment of NVIDIA Vera Rubin and Blackwell platforms, featuring over 70,000 NVIDIA GPUs.
The global AI infrastructure pipeline of Firebird is projected to reach 2 gigawatts by the end of 2028, with developments planned in Armenia, Kazakhstan, and other frontier markets. The recent inauguration of the AI factory in Armenia establishes the country as a strategic hub for artificial intelligence computing and represents a milestone for the future of AI infrastructure in the region.
The official opening event included remarks from various dignitaries, such as Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang. The participation of key leaders from both local and international spheres highlighted the project's significance and the recognition of AI infrastructure as a critical strategic asset in the global economy. Pashinyan noted the opening comes exactly one year after the signing of a memorandum of understanding on AI and technology cooperation with the United States.
In addition to its own investments, NVIDIA is set to support Firebird's expansion following an earlier investment from CoreWeave. The roadmap for the AI factory aims to scale its GPU deployment beyond 70,000 by the end of 2027, ultimately expanding the platform's capacity to 300 megawatts. This positions the factory as one of Europe's largest AI infrastructure platforms.
Firebird's expansion strategy extends to Kazakhstan, where it has secured 125 megawatts of AI infrastructure capacity at Data Center Valley. With approvals from the Government of Kazakhstan and the U.S. Department of Commerce, the company aims to achieve a total of two gigawatts of AI infrastructure capacity by the end of 2028. Firebird Co-Founder and CEO Razmig Hovaghimian emphasized the need for trusted partners in the development of secure and scalable AI platforms as the demand for AI infrastructure continues to rise globally.
As part of its operational plans, Firebird has selected Perplexity as one of its first customers. The collaboration will enable Perplexity to utilize Firebird's high-performance AI infrastructure to enhance its answer engine and AI-powered digital coworker platform, further supporting the growth of Armenia's technology sector and startup ecosystem.
