IBM Partners with OpenAI to Accelerate Secure AI Deployment for Enterprises Across Core Operations

August 13, 2026

IBM has announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI aimed at helping enterprises deploy artificial intelligence (AI) at scale across their core business operations and complex workflows. The partnership will also focus on enhancing cybersecurity through initiatives such as OpenAI Daybreak. It includes joint go-to-market strategies and the development of industry-specific solutions targeting sectors like financial services, government, telecommunications, and retail, as well as enterprise domains such as finance, procurement, customer operations, and human resources.

The partnership will integrate OpenAI's frontier models, including GPT-5.6, along with products like Codex and ChatGPT Work into IBM Consulting Advantage, the company’s AI delivery platform. This integration is intended to help organizations securely implement AI at scale, driving business outcomes and creating new commercial models by utilizing AI agents, industry assets, and cybersecurity capabilities.

Specialized teams of engineers and consultants trained through the OpenAI Partner Network will be deployed by IBM to work directly with clients, facilitating the transition to AI-driven operations in complex business environments. Additionally, IBM plans to establish a dedicated OpenAI Practice, which will include thousands of consultants and engineers trained to achieve expert-level certifications under the OpenAI Partner Network.

The partnership will concentrate on three primary areas: transforming legacy operations into AI-ready workflows; modernizing legacy applications and accelerating software development; and enhancing cybersecurity and AI risk management. The collaboration aims to streamline operations and mitigate risks associated with AI adoption, providing organizations with the tools to integrate AI into their daily processes effectively.

Both companies affirm that successful integration of AI into business operations is essential for delivering measurable outcomes. Andy Baldwin, Global Senior Vice President of IBM Consulting, highlighted that the real challenge lies not in accessing AI technologies, but in seamlessly embedding them into existing workflows. Denise Dresser, Chief Revenue Officer at OpenAI, emphasized the importance of making AI a trusted component of business operations, further indicating the shared focus of both organizations on secure and enterprise-ready AI solutions.

As part of their collaboration, IBM will join OpenAI's Elite partner tier, underscoring their commitment to deliver secure, scalable AI solutions across various industries.
