Knott's Berry Farm Relaunches Historic Montezooma's Revenge as MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress
Knott's Berry Farm has announced the grand reopening of Montezooma's Revenge, now rebranded as MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress, just before National Roller Coaster Day on August 16. The iconic roller coaster has undergone extensive restoration and modernization aimed at enhancing the ride experience while preserving its historical significance for future generations.
Originally debuting nearly five decades ago, MonteZOOMa was the world's first flywheel-launched roller coaster, featuring a signature launch that accelerates riders from 0 to 55 mph in just four seconds, a 76-foot vertical loop, and a dramatic ascent up a 148-foot spike before reversing through the station and climbing a second 112-foot tower.
The recent multi-year revitalization project has introduced several new features, including new trains, an innovative motorized launch system, an updated station experience, refurbished track and supports, and a reimagined story. The new storyline immerses guests in an adventure involving a mysterious forbidden temple and the legendary lost treasure of Montezooma, enriching the thematic experience from the queue to launch.
Raffi Kaprelyan, park president of Knott's Berry Farm, noted the importance of preserving the classic elements of the coaster while incorporating modern technology and storytelling to engage new audiences. MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress coincides with the sale of 2027 Knott's Berry Farm Gold Season Passes, which offer unlimited access to the park and its attractions throughout 2026 and 2027.
The Gold Season Pass includes access to seasonal events, discounts on food and merchandise, and additional benefits for passholders. There is also an option for a Prestige Pass, which provides VIP experiences at various Six Flags parks across North America.
This year's unveiling of MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress marks a significant addition to Knott's Berry Farm's lineup of attractions and reflects the park's commitment to ongoing investments aimed at enhancing visitor experiences.
