NCC's Executive Director and Psychometrician Bresney Fanning Assumes Presidency of the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS)

The National Certification Corporation (NCC) has announced that Bresney A. Fanning, MSN, Med-MESA, NNP-BC, C-NNIC, C-ELBW, has officially taken on the role of president of the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) as of July 1, 2026.

In her new position, Fanning aims to advocate for the significance of specialty nursing certification, which she describes as a critical milestone for nurses and public safety. "Specialty nursing certification is an essential milestone that empowers nurses and protects the public. As ABNS president, my goal is to continue to advocate for the value of this milestone, making sure the dedication of certified nurses is recognized, celebrated, and deeply integrated into the future of healthcare," she said. Fanning emphasized that certification not only validates knowledge but also instills trust and promotes professional growth.

Fanning has a distinguished career marked by leadership and innovation in nursing certification and clinical practice. She has spent her career promoting the importance of certification in the healthcare field, focusing on validated expertise and its role in ensuring high-quality care and enhancing public trust in nursing.

NCC is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing healthcare quality for women, neonates, and their families. The organization offers certification and educational programs for nurses, physicians, and other licensed healthcare professionals in obstetric, gynecologic, and neonatal specialties. Since its founding in 1975, over 242,000 healthcare professionals have received certifications from NCC.
