The first international card payment has been processed in Syria since more than 15 years, marking a crucial step in modernizing the country's payment ecosystem. Mastercard and the QNB Group facilitated this transaction following the technical reconnection of Syria's payment infrastructure to Mastercard's global network.

The transaction was executed by QNB Syria at a licensed local merchant and involved the use of an internationally issued Mastercard card. This development is expected to pave the way for international card acceptance within the country.

HE Mohammed Safwat Raslan, the Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, conducted the first international card transaction, accompanied by senior executives from Mastercard, QNB Group, and other officials, highlighting the significance of this milestone in reestablishing Syria's place in the global payments landscape.
