XiamenAir launches new intercontinental route with inaugural Xiamen-London flight
XiamenAir's inaugural flight MF821 landed at Heathrow Airport on September 6, marking the launch of a direct round-trip service between Xiamen and London. The flight, which lasted 12 hours, departed from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport carrying 263 passengers. This route is Fujian's first direct passenger service to London, eliminating the need for stopovers in third destinations and enhancing connectivity between the two cities.
The new service operates three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays using Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Flight MF821 leaves Xiamen at 00:50 and arrives in London at 06:35, while the return flight, MF822, departs London at 12:35 and reaches Xiamen at 07:00 the following day, local time.
The flight schedule is designed to optimize connectivity and enhance passenger convenience. Travelers can easily link to XiamenAir's extensive network and benefit from a 15-second smart customs clearance process at Xiamen Airport. The early morning arrival in London allows business travelers to start their day promptly and provides sufficient time for connections to other European destinations, while the midday departure aids in alleviating jet lag.
Themed "Egret Island's Sea Breeze and British Charm," the inaugural flight experience included displays of Xiamen's coastal scenery alongside British landmarks in the check-in area. Passengers participated in a trivia quiz before boarding, and a themed photo zone attracted families and students keen to capture memories of their journey. Onboard, passengers received commemorative items and enjoyed British music accompanied by specially crafted mocktails, marking the occasion as a significant milestone in air connectivity between Fujian and the UK.
Bilateral relations between China and the UK are reportedly strengthening, with Fujian having a substantial Chinese community in the UK and a high demand for travel among students from the province. The new Xiamen-London route is expected to expand XiamenAir's intercontinental network and boost Fujian's global engagement.
