Surfshark expands its cybersecurity ecosystem with the acquisition of data removal provider Optery

Cybersecurity company Surfshark has announced its acquisition of a majority stake in Optery, a US-based company specializing in data removal from search engine results, data brokers, and people-search sites. This acquisition reflects Surfshark's strategy to enhance its ecosystem of privacy and security brands, which includes Incogni, Ironwall, and HeyPolo. Each brand will continue to operate independently.

The acquisition comes in response to the increasing need for personal data control within an AI-driven environment. According to the company, integrating Optery's specialized scanning technology and extensive coverage of US data brokers will enhance user protection and drive innovation within the cybersecurity sector.

Vytautas Kaziukonis, founder and chairman of the board at Surfshark, emphasized the company's commitment to empowering individuals to manage their digital lives more effectively. He stated, "With Optery on board, we're further expanding our personal data protection capabilities and unlocking exciting new potential for innovation."

Lawrence Gentilello, CEO and founder of Optery, noted the importance of the acquisition for both companies, highlighting their mutual commitment to combat cyber and physical threats through effective personal data removal. Similarly, Darius Belejevas, CEO of Incogni, expressed confidence that their combined efforts would enhance protection for users against scams and privacy violations.

Optery will maintain its standalone operations, preserving its team structure, client base, and technical features despite becoming part of the Surfshark group. This development marks Surfshark's second strategic acquisition, following its purchase of Ironwall in 2024, which targets data removal for public sector officials and executive teams.
