Centrus and Radiant Announce Long-Term Partnership for Domestic HALEU to Supply Kaleidos Microreactors
Centrus Energy Corp., a supplier of nuclear fuel and services, has announced a multi-year contract with Radiant, a developer of transportable nuclear microreactors, to supply high-assay, low-enriched uranium (HALEU) fuel for multiple Kaleidos microreactors. The agreement will allow Centrus to begin HALEU deliveries by the end of the decade, further enhancing its position in the emerging microreactor market.
The contract includes prepayments from Radiant to support Centrus' domestic commercial enrichment capacity program. Amir Vexler, President and Chief Executive Officer of Centrus, stated, "The contract with Radiant marks another important step in building the domestic fuel supply chain needed to support the next generation of nuclear energy." He emphasized the importance of collaborating with innovative developers like Radiant to strengthen the U.S.-based fuel supply network.
Dr. Rita Baranwal, Chief Nuclear Officer of Radiant, commented on the importance of a reliable fuel supply, saying, "You can't deploy nuclear reactors without fuel, so we have approached our fuel supply the same way we have approached the reactor: build it in parallel, and don't depend on any single path." The agreement will support the ongoing development of Kaleidos microreactors, designed for diverse applications including remote power supply and defense operations.
As Centrus' technology is U.S.-origin, the enrichment it provides to Radiant will be classified as "unobligated," enabling its use for national security applications. Centrus' AC100 centrifuge design is currently the only U.S.-origin technology available for unobligated enrichment. This development is significant as Radiant's microreactors represent a broad potential market for Centrus' HALEU supply.
Centrus Energy Corp. has been active in the nuclear power industry since 1998, supplying over 1,850 reactor years of fuel. Its focus is on producing HALEU and restoring uranium enrichment capabilities in the U.S. to meet energy security needs. Radiant is similarly committed to advancing nuclear technologies to deliver scalable energy solutions for various sectors.
