Cognex to Acquire RealSense, Expanding Machine Vision Leadership into High-Growth Robotic Perception Market

Cognex Corporation has announced a definitive agreement to acquire RealSense, a leader in depth-sensing cameras and vision technology for robotic perception and Physical AI. This acquisition is part of Cognex's strategy to diversify its growth by entering the robotic perception market, which is expected to expand significantly.

Matt Moschner, President and CEO of Cognex, stated that RealSense represents a strategic expansion into one of the most attractive adjacent markets in machine vision. He highlighted that RealSense has a leading 3D perception platform, along with proprietary technology and a strong developer community.

Nadav Orbach, CEO of RealSense, expressed that joining forces with Cognex would enhance their mission of enabling robots and autonomous systems to perceive the physical world accurately, allowing for a scaled approach to their visual intelligence technology.

The acquisition is projected to add approximately $600 million to Cognex's market opportunity, with expectations of RealSense generating $80 million to $90 million in revenue in 2026. Dennis Fehr, CFO of Cognex, indicated that this transaction aligns with their M&A strategy and is anticipated to positively impact Cognex's growth profile.

Cognex will acquire RealSense for about $500 million, financed entirely with cash from its balance sheet. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to customary conditions. Prior to closure, RealSense will establish its Facial Authentication product line as an independent entity.

Cognex management plans to hold a conference call on September 22, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. ET to discuss the details of the acquisition and respond to inquiries from investors and analysts.
