nuHarbor Expands Splunk Practice with New mXDR Offering

September 25, 2026

BURLINGTON, Vt. - nuHarbor, a managed cybersecurity services provider, is expanding its Splunk services portfolio to include a new Managed Extended Detection and Response (mXDR) offering aimed at state and local government organizations managing security operations across multiple platforms, agencies, and legacy tools.

Many state governments do not utilize a uniform security stack, as individual agencies procure their own security tools independently. This procurement approach often leads to visibility gaps between systems that are not designed to communicate with one another. nuHarbor's new Splunk mXDR offering is intended to address these gaps by centralizing detection, triage, and response across existing technology investments, eliminating the need for agencies to standardize on new tools.

"States don't have the luxury of a clean-sheet security architecture — they inherit 20 years of agency-by-agency purchasing decisions across dozens of individual agencies, each with its own procurement cycle," said Justin Fimlaid, CEO of nuHarbor. He emphasized that the security industry must align solutions with the current state of technology in use by government agencies.

The new offering is designed for easy adoption by state security teams. Approved response playbooks can automate routine actions such as containment, firewall changes, ticketing, and notifications, reducing reliance on analysts for these tasks. For more critical decisions, designated approvers can review actions before they are executed.

"Using Splunk as the aggregation point gives a state CISO one consistent view and one accountable response team, even across systems that were never built to talk to each other," said Kyle Smith, COO of nuHarbor. He noted that agencies can benefit from automation while still retaining human oversight for decisions that involve significant risk.

The mXDR offering provides 24/7 monitoring and response across various ingested toolsets, supports leading EDR platforms like CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, and Microsoft Defender, and includes features such as mobile push-notification approvals for action authorization. It allows for phased onboarding of agencies, making it feasible for states to gradually improve their security posture without awaiting full funding.

nuHarbor, headquartered in Burlington, Vt., specializes in supporting public sector entities with co-managed SOC, mXDR, and security advisory services tailored to state and local governments, higher education, and other multi-stakeholder environments.
