CTA Construction Managers Celebrates Steel Topping Off at New Melrose Fire Engine 2 Station
Construction of the new Engine 2 station is progressing as part of the initial phase of Melrose's larger Public Safety Buildings Project. CTA Construction Managers recently joined city officials, the Melrose Fire Department, project partners, and members of Ironworkers Local 7 to commemorate the steel topping off of the new fire station.
The ceremony marked the placement of the final structural steel beam, which was elevated into position carrying an American flag and an evergreen tree, adhering to the traditional topping-off ceremony.
"Reaching the topping-off milestone is an exciting moment for everyone involved in this project," said Pat Tompkins, Principal at CTA Construction Managers. He emphasized that the achievement reflects the collaborative efforts of the project team and trade partners, moving the City of Melrose closer to a modern facility intended to support its firefighters and the community for years to come.
The approximately 24,000-square-foot Engine 2 station will feature three apparatus bays, a maintenance bay, administrative space, fitness facilities, and sleeping quarters. During construction, Engine 2 personnel are temporarily operating from Fire Headquarters to ensure uninterrupted emergency response services.
