OpenAssets Launches Sentinel, an AI-Enabled OpenCompliance Platform Modernizing Financial Market Rails
OpenAssets has announced the launch of Sentinel, an AI-enabled OpenCompliance platform aimed at helping institutions modernize their financial market infrastructure. As financial markets increasingly transition to tokenized securities, regulated stablecoins, and continuous settlement, the compliance obligations associated with these changes are becoming equally important.
Current compliance practices largely involve compiling a collection of screenshots and spreadsheets after obligations are completed. In contrast, Sentinel aims to integrate these obligations with controls in real-time, providing proof of compliance status that can be verified on demand. This approach allows for a more efficient response to audit and diligence inquiries, shifting the focus from project-based tasks to continuous compliance tracking.
Sentinel includes a model that outlines how obligations relate to controls and the required supporting evidence. A designated reviewer evaluates and confirms each obligation, with all decisions logged alongside corresponding actions. The platform generates an append-only audit log entry when a control is satisfied, and OpenAssets has made the control mapping schema available for counterparties, auditors, and vendors to verify compliance without the need for time-consuming manual exchanges.
The platform is designed to work with existing identifiers and messaging standards such as ISO 20022, DTI, ISIN, IVMS101, and ERC-3643, ensuring that compliance evidence is integrated with the current infrastructure used by institutions, eliminating the need for additional translation layers. Furthermore, once actions are recorded in Sentinel, they cannot be altered or deleted, ensuring an immutable compliance record.
Surendra Kalidindi, COO & CTO of OpenAssets, emphasized the platform's focus on reliability in compliance, stating, "Compliance on tokenized markets breaks down for one reason: proof doesn't travel. Informed by our own experience as a registered Transfer Agent, we built Sentinel to bind obligations to controls as they're written and produce proof any counterparty can check." Kalidindi noted that this innovation aims to redefine what "audit-ready" means for the evolving landscape of tokenized markets.
OpenAssets develops infrastructure for digital financial systems and collaborates with institutions, governments, and technology companies to modernize capital markets through the establishment of shared standards for asset tokenization. The company is also actively involved in developing open standards in partnership with the Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust.
