Uzbekistan Airports Signs Landmark SAF and e-SAF MOU with Allied Biofuels Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan Airports JSC and Allied Biofuels FE LLC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and electro-synthetic Sustainable Aviation Fuel (e-SAF) in Uzbekistan. Under the agreement, the two parties plan to collaborate on the establishment of SAF and e-SAF supply, which is projected to begin by 2030.

This signing is viewed as a significant step in enhancing Uzbekistan's position as an emerging regional hub for sustainable aviation and clean fuel development. The cooperation aligns with global efforts to decarbonize aviation while supporting Uzbekistan's goal to become a leader in cleaner aviation practices across Central Asia.

Allied Biofuels is currently developing an integrated biofuels refinery in Uzbekistan that aims to produce SAF, e-SAF, and Green Diesel on an industrial scale. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to generate approximately 160,400 tonnes of SAF, 257,000 tonnes of e-SAF, and 5,040 tonnes of Green Diesel annually. Valued at about US$6.1 billion, the project is considered one of the region's most significant clean energy infrastructure initiatives, powered by a 4.45 GW renewable energy system and supported by a 1,600 MWh battery storage system and 2.4 GW of electrolysers for green hydrogen production.

J.O. Umarkhodjaev, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Airports, expressed support for the collaboration, stating, "Uzbekistan Airports is pleased to take this important step with Allied Biofuels as we continue to support the modernization of Uzbekistan’s aviation sector and explore practical pathways for the adoption of sustainable aviation fuels." Alfred Benedict, General Director of Allied Biofuels, described the MOU as "a major milestone" for the company and highlighted their commitment to assisting Uzbekistan’s transition towards cleaner aviation.

The collaboration is expected to promote future investment, technology deployment, and market development for SAF and e-SAF in Uzbekistan, contributing to international aviation decarbonization goals.
