Feeding America, AmeriCorps and Other National Partners to Support Good Neighbor Day America in Communities Nationwide

May 14, 2026

Good Neighbor Day America (GNDA) has announced a nationwide initiative in partnership with America250, set to take place on May 16, 2026. This event aims to unite volunteers across more than 120 cities in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C. The initiative seeks to inspire 250 million acts of kindness in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. Notable national partners include Feeding America, Trellis International, AmeriCorps, and Chick-fil-A.

Major cities participating in this day of service include Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, New York, and Atlanta, among others. The events will encourage residents, nonprofit organizations, and volunteers to engage in community service projects aimed at enhancing local neighborhoods. In Orange County, activities such as painting murals and planting 2,000 flowers along trails will be facilitated through more than 100 service projects.

Reina Cuthill, City Catalyst Director at Trellis International, noted, "Each city will host a festive gathering, either in the morning or at lunch, featuring free T-shirts, coffee, food and live performances." The day is designed to provide communities with opportunities to make a positive impact while serving together.

In New York City, GNDA is collaborating with City Parks Foundation and New York Cares to mobilize volunteers for various hands-on service projects. Sapreet K. Saluja, Executive Director at New York Cares, stated, "Together, these efforts provide pathways for everyday New Yorkers to become force multipliers, delivering essential resources and supporting neighbors where the need is greatest." The partnership is expected to mobilize more than 1,000 volunteers on the day of service.

Chick-fil-A will contribute meals for volunteers in several flagship locations, including New York City, Detroit, and Atlanta, where large-scale service initiatives will take place. Feeding America will also participate by supporting food distribution events in communities across the country. Denis McDonough, CEO of Feeding America, remarked, "Good Neighbor Day America is a powerful reminder that our country is strongest when we show up for one another."

AmeriCorps will further bolster the initiative by providing funding and mobilizing volunteers for community-based projects. Mark Lloyd, Chief of Staff at AmeriCorps, emphasized the importance of connecting Americans to the needs within their neighborhoods. Volunteers interested in participating can sign up at goodneighbordayamerica.com to access the GNDA platform and post their service events.
