The City of Gothenburg Welcomes MAGNA-TILES®, Reverses Suspension Following Confirmatory Safety Testing

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. - MAGNA-TILES has confirmed that the City of Gothenburg has reversed its prior decision regarding MAGNA-TILES products, following test results that indicate the products do not contain Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC). The decision comes after MAGNA-TILES issued a statement on April 29, 2026, about product testing and discussions with local authorities in Sweden. The City of Gothenburg has stated that it will communicate this update to its customers and through its website.

In April, concerns were raised about the potential presence of SVHC in MAGNA-TILES products due to routine procurement spot checks. This led Gothenburg administrators to temporarily remove MAGNA-TILES products from preschool classrooms as a precaution. MAGNA-TILES insisted from the start that SVHC are not present in any of its products, based on extensive third-party testing and stringent quality standards.

To validate its claims, MAGNA-TILES commissioned additional testing with Intertek, an independent, accredited assurance organization. The tests conducted on samples from the same factory and production lot revealed that cobalt, boron, and all relevant SVHC substances were at non-detectable levels, resulting in a passing outcome. Following the review of this additional data, the original report from Eurofins Scientific was adjusted from "Warning" to "Pass."
