Football's Biggest Moment Isn't About a Trophy -- It's About Giving Back

Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Common Goal will launch World Football Giving Day on May 26, aiming to unite the football community around global giving and social impact. This initiative is set to take place one day after the United Nations' official World Football Day.

The inaugural World Football Giving Day, powered by Common Goal and endorsed by UN Football for the Goals, is designed to harness the global reach of football for collective action and community support. The initiative, which coincides with the countdown to the World Cup, aims to establish an annual day of purpose that underscores the sport's potential to foster inclusion, opportunity, and social change.

A central symbol of the movement is the heart gesture, representing the belief that football can connect people across diverse cultures and communities. Fans, players, clubs, brands, media platforms, and grassroots organizations are invited to participate through various activities, including donations, community events, storytelling, volunteering, and social campaigns, which illustrate the sport's influence beyond the field.

The initiative has garnered support from notable figures in football, such as Juan Mata, Jürgen Klopp, Naomi Girma, Vivianne Miedema, Serge Gnabry, Dani Olmo, and Irene Paredes, as well as over 200 community organizations from more than 100 countries dedicated to creating safer, more inclusive environments for young people through football.

Common Goal, the organization behind World Football Giving Day, has mobilized over $160 million in funding since its inception in 2002, supporting a network of organizations that address pressing social issues through football. Elvira González-Vallés, Head of Brand at Common Goal, emphasized the initiative as a vital step toward recognizing and celebrating the organizations that use football to impact lives positively.
