UNESCO Director-General condemns the killing of journalist Amal Khalil in Lebanon

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which has 194 Member States, plays a significant role in promoting peace and security through international collaboration on education, science, culture, communication, and information. The organization, headquartered in Paris, operates in 54 countries and employs over 2,300 people.

UNESCO manages more than 2,000 World Heritage sites, Biosphere Reserves, and Global Geoparks. It also supports networks of Creative, Learning, Inclusive, and Sustainable Cities, along with over 13,000 associated schools, university chairs, and training and research institutions across a global network of 200 National Commissions. The organization is led by Director-General Khaled El-Enany.

In a statement reflecting its mission, UNESCO's Constitution from 1945 states, "Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed."
