InMotion Hosting Enhances Global Network with High-Speed Established Peering Partnerships

InMotion Hosting has announced the completion of a major upgrade to its global network, which includes the integration of a software-defined networking (SDN) fabric into its existing peering architecture. This enhancement transforms the company's peering points in Los Angeles, Ashburn, and Amsterdam into dynamic networking gateways that can directly connect to cloud providers, carriers, internet exchanges, and managed service partners worldwide. The upgrade allows customers to manage latency-sensitive and bandwidth-intensive workloads more efficiently across the U.S. and Europe, resulting in improved routing and reduced latency.

"Most hosting companies rent their network reach from a limited number of cloud providers," said Erik Soroka, Director of Information Technology & Data Center Operations at InMotion Hosting. "In contrast, we own the network and have made it programmable to connect to a broader global ecosystem without needing additional hardware." This capability enables InMotion Hosting to monitor real-time global metrics and implement solutions rapidly when latency or routing issues arise.

Traditionally, peering at internet exchanges has relied on a one-to-one model, where adding new connections requires provisioning additional ports. The SDN fabric replaces this model with a one-to-many architecture, allowing a single high-capacity port to connect various destinations efficiently and flexibly through software adjustments.

The newly integrated fabric enhances established direct peerings with major cloud providers and content delivery networks, including Google, Microsoft, and Cloudflare across various locations. This infrastructure upgrade provides private connections to hyperscale clouds and other service partners while improving traffic management and reducing exposure to public internet variability.
