Orbital unveils plans for US expansion as demand grows for stablecoin and cross-border payment infrastructure
Orbital, a global payment orchestration platform, has announced plans to establish a presence in the United States, with Miami, Florida serving as its base of operations. This expansion aims to meet the growing demand for regulated, enterprise-grade payment infrastructure that connects the U.S. with international markets.
The company's entry into the U.S. market will be phased, involving the pursuit of relevant regulatory approvals and money transmission licenses, as well as the development of dedicated in-market capabilities over time. The timing of this move corresponds with increased demand from Orbital's international clients for deeper U.S. connectivity, including onshore USD settlement infrastructure.
Additionally, the introduction of the GENIUS Act has created a federal framework for U.S. payment stablecoins, which is accelerating activity among financial institutions and payment businesses focused on developing stablecoin infrastructure. Orbital currently facilitates payments for global businesses across traditional currencies and stablecoins, processing around $12 billion in annualized volume.
With a focus on compliance and security, Orbital holds several certifications, including SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001:2022. Miami was chosen as a key hub for cross-border payment flows and digital asset businesses, particularly those serving Latin America. The initial U.S. focus will target B2B payment providers, cross-border payment and remittance businesses, and companies engaged in the digital asset ecosystem.
Chris Mason, CEO of Orbital, emphasized the company's extensive experience in building a payment platform designed for businesses with complex cross-border needs. He noted that the U.S. market is a natural next step, as financial institutions and payment businesses are actively developing stablecoin infrastructure and require a reliable partner for global payment coverage.
Orbital expects to lay the groundwork for its U.S. operations in the next 12 to 18 months while continuing to expand its international payment coverage. Established in 2017, Orbital is the trading name of the Pay Perform group, which includes various regulatory authorizations across multiple jurisdictions.
