Golden Goblet Awards Winners Unveiled at the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival
The Golden Goblet Awards Ceremony of the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) took place at the Shanghai Grand Theatre, concluding a ten-day celebration of cinema. The event attracted filmmakers, jury members, and industry professionals from around the globe, culminating in the presentation of the festival's highest honors across five competition sections: Main Competition, Asian New Talent, Documentary, Animation, and Short Film.
The winners of the awards were announced during the ceremony. Best Feature Film was awarded to ATLANTIC RHAPSODY from China, directed by ZHONG Kaifeng. The Jury Grand Prix went to ILUMINADA from Belgium, directed by Nicolás Rincón Gille. Yassine El Idrissi received Best Director for HALIMA from Morocco, while ZHANG Songwen took home Best Actor for his performance in SECRET IN THE BOX, a film from the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong directed by Frankie Tam Kwong Yuen. Khadija Amari won Best Actress for HALIMA.
Additional awards included Best Screenplay to Reis Çelik for NIGHT OF BLINDNESS (Turkey/Germany), and Best Cinematography to HAO Jiayue for ATLANTIC RHAPSODY. The Outstanding Artistic Achievement award went to THE MISERABLE MOTHER (Germany/France), directed by Susanne Heinrich. In the Asian New Talent category, HER FIRST TASTE from China, directed by GONG Yiwen, was recognized as Best Film and GONG Yiwen also won Best Director in this section. The festival also recognized notable achievements in documentary and animated films.
During the festival, acclaimed actor Tony Leung Chiu-wai led a masterclass, attracting a full auditorium of film professionals, students, and enthusiasts. He shared insights from his extensive career, emphasizing the importance of observing subtleties in performance. The festival marked a record receipt of approximately 4,100 submissions from 125 different regions, with 82% of the eligible entries being world or international premieres, highlighting its role as an important launch platform for filmmakers.
Running from June 12 to June 21, the festival has facilitated international cultural exchanges through a variety of film screenings, industry events, and talent development initiatives. As the festival approaches its final day, it continues to host screenings and events across Shanghai before officially concluding on June 21, bringing together filmmakers, audiences, and industry professionals in celebration of cinema.
